Good day all! As I mentioned last week, it is my pleasure to host Dane Hatchell’s Next Big Thing right here on my little slice of the internet. Dane is the author of Resurrection X: Zombie Evolution as well as a whole horde of short stories filled with zombies, zombies, and more zombies (not to mention an assortment of other creepy crawlies to set your eyes on fire).
You can check out Dane’s work on his Amazon page and keep your eyes peeled on Facebook for his new releases (I always try to share them, so if we’re fb friends don’t forget to check them out!). To read about what he’s got coming up next, read on:
1) What is the title of your next book/work?
2) Where did the idea come from for the book/work?
Mark Scioneaux of the Horror For Good/Nightscape Press fame had an idea and wanted me to co-write a novel with him. I took his basic plot and fleshed out the storyline to where it was a story of our equal creations.
3) What genre does your book/work fall under?
Horror/Sci-fi/Action. Insurgent Z is non-stop adventure.
4) What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
Ugh. That’s a tough one. I think the characters would be better served with unknowns starring in the roles.
5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
An ex-soldier’s past returns to destroy his new life in a tale of revenge, survival, and redemption.
6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Blood Bound Books is set to publish before the World Horror Convention in 2013.
7) How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
It took a little over twelve weeks for us to put the first draft together.
9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?
We wanted to write a survival novel with the most genuine characters possible. We wanted a fresh approach to common themes and be able to build on unique aspects of the story in subsequent novels.
10) What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?
Stoker Award winning author Joe McKinney will be writing the forward. The editors of Blood Bound Books are pouring a lot of resources into Insurgent Z and have high expectations for its success. Of course, Mark and I had a blast writing it. Our styles mesh well enough that when we proofed the drafts both of us would get confused sometimes as to who wrote what. I’m not kidding. I can almost guarantee the reader will shed a tear or two at the conclusion of a few conflicts. At least, I always did when I read it.
There you have it, folks, straight from the man himself. Insurgent Z is coming soon from Blood Bound Books and the minds of Dane Hatchell and Mark Scioneaux. If you just can’t wait to get your hands on it, why not check out Resurrection X: Zombie Evolution available now from the good folks at Post Mortem Press. I very recently finished reading it and can’t say enough good things about it (but I try on Goodreads if you’re interested). Here’s the jacket blurb and some of the good things other folks had to say about it:
Dallas, in the year 2020.
Modern society is maintained by a labor force of genetically altered zombies. Lisa Goudard has no concern for their treatment, until a lab experiment gone awry infects her with the zombie virus.
Saved by a radical drug treatment, Lisa is now relegated to the working class with the rest of the undead. She doesn’t know she is infected with a genetically altered viral prototype designed to produce immortality. As Lisa struggles to regain her first class citizen rights, the creators of the virus seek her servitude.
PRAISE for RESURRECTION X: ZOMBIE EVOLUTION
Resurrection X: Zombie Evolution is a creepy tale that shambles into new territory of the zombie landscape. Sick, twisted, and inventive!
– Jonathan Maberry, New York Times best-selling author of DEAD OF NIGHT and PATIENT ZERO
Dane Hatchell takes us through the rabbit hole, zombie style, with his debut novel Resurrection X: Zombie Evolution. Hatchell’s world-building is truly something to see, and his social commentary is intelligent and well-handled. But it’s the character of Lisa that really sold me on this book. Hatchell’s main character is richly drawn, both before and after her transformation, and it’s through the sympathy we feel for her predicament that Hatchell’s skills as a writer shine. You’re gonna like this one!
-Joe McKinney, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of FLESH EATERS and DEAD CITY
A hell of a zombie story. Dane Hatchell’s Resurrection X: Zombie Evolution really is the next evolution of the zombie tale. If you like zombies (and who doesn’t), buy this book.
– Chuck Hustmyer, bestselling author and screenwriter.
With many brainless zombie books shuffling around, Hatchell debuts with a passionate, smart zombie novel that sets a new standard in the undead literary world. A true gem that any fan of the genre should not miss!
– Mark C. Scioneaux, editor/founder of HORROR FOR GOOD and author of THE GLASS COFFIN
Dane Hatchell has published more than 30 short stories appearing in various anthologies over the past few years. He lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and works at an oil and chemical plantation.
